Synopsis by Alice Day
When doctors are faced with giving their patients difficult information, they must examine their methods of approach in A Friend of the Family. Although these issues arise fairly often, many physicians find that talking about terminal illness and end-of-life decisions to be extremely hard. This program provides guidance for doctors, presenting three scenarios: a woman must be told she has breast cancer, an elderly person must face admission into a care facility, and another patient needs to make a living will. Different approaches are shown, with suggestions about the most effective ones.
