Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur
Jessica Chandler directs this portrait of constructivist sculptor Fargo Deborah Whitman, who has been diagnosed with dissociative personality disorder. Following a brief introduction to the artist's background and career in the New York art world, the one-hour documentary focuses mostly on Whitman's many differing personalities. She shifts between several selves, including Genie, Anton, Meticulous, Gibbon, and Wiley. Despite this possibly debilitating disorder, she continues to prosper as an artist. A Fine State This Is was shown at the 2003 IFP Los Angeles Film Festival.
