Synopsis by Josh Ralske

Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), an anti-terrorism agent based in Los Angeles, has recently returned home after a separation from his wife, Teri (Leslie Hope), and his daughter, Kimberly (Elisha Cuthbert), who seems to blame Teri for the split. Jack and Teri learn that Kimberly has snuck out of the house, but before they can deal with the situation, Jack is called away to work. He has a close relationship with one of his underlings, Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke), and another, Tony (Carlos Bernard), suspects them of having an affair. Jack's boss, Richard Walsh (Michael O'Neill), tells him about a plot to assassinate a presidential candidate, David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert). Walsh also tells him that they suspect that someone in his unit is a mole. Jack gets into a conflict with George Mason (Xander Berkeley), another agent who won't tell him where they got the information about the assassination plot. Palmer gets a call from a reporter who makes a disturbing allegation, but he won't tell his wife, Sherry (Penny Johnson), what the reporter said. Kimberly and her friend, Janet (Jacqui Maxwell), meet up with two older guys, Rick (Daniel Bess) and Dan (Matthew Carey). She hits it off with Dan, but when she realizes that Teri's been trying to reach her, she decides to go home. Rick and Dan offer her a ride home, but they don't follow her directions. Martin Belkin (Rudolph Martin) is flying into L.A. to photograph Palmer. He strikes up a conversation with Mandy (Mia Kirshner), the attractive woman sitting next to him on the plane. As the jet comes in for a landing, Mandy reveals herself to be a part of the terrorist plot. The premiere episode of 24 was directed by Stephen Hopkins (Lost in Space).
