Synopsis by Nathan Southern

By any standard, vast sociological, behavioral and cultural differences divide individuals of African ethnicity who reside in Africa from individuals of like background who have since settled in outlying continents (or the "Diaspora.") With his documentary 10 Days in Africa, documentarist Regi Allen examines the complex and intertwined reasons behind these divisions. Allen travels to three countries in West Africa and lets his cameras roll, often using a "self-reflexive" documentary style that turns the focus back on himself. The director wields lofty ambitions, attempting to use the film to heal past wounds and grievances while providing rare and precious insights into the concept of racial identity (and more specifically, black identity) as a phenomenon.
