Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this documentary, elderly Hungarian survivors of a World War I battle are interviewed about their experiences. At first the film appears to be a straightforward interview documentary about the battle itself, but it also emerges that as these soldiers were fighting the Italians alongside the Austrians at Isonzo, their homes were being looted and burned and whole sections of their country were being annexed by the Romanians. In a moving finale to the film, these old soldiers revisit the battlefield where so many of their comrades died and join the survivors among their Italian opponents in mourning.
