The work of filmmaker Ula Stöckl is most associated with New German Cinema. All of her films are centered on the ways in which women percieve themselves and the attempt of women to find a language and consciousness independent of patriarchal culture. Prior to making her feature length directorial debut, Neun Leben hat die Katze, in 1968, Stöckl collaborated on two films and made several shorts for television. She later went on to be a prolific filmmaker.
