- Started working with Stardust, Mumbai in his early twenties, but was thrown out after three months, as he was not good at journalism.
- Joined a trade guide before he met Mukul Anand. It was then that he decided to enroll for a filmmaking course instead of becoming Mukul's assistant.
- Won a National Award in 1987 for his diploma film The Eight Column Affair.
- Is recognised for the good work for his short film on Raman Raghav, a serial killer who terrified Mumbai in the 1960s.
