Morton Downey Sr. was a popular radio performer and prolific recording artist during the '30s and '40s. He also appeared in a few films beginning in the late 1920s. Downey, had a keen business sense and wisely invested his earnings. As a result, he was able to retire a very wealthy man near the beginning of the 1950s.
