Biography by AllMovie

Spanish actor, screenwriter, and director Miguel Picazo was a leading figure in the New Spanish Cinema during the '60s, thanks to the critical success of his debut feature, La Tía Tula/Aunt Tula (1964), still his best-known film. Before joining the film industry, Picazo had worked with an electric company in Guadalajara and been a film critic. In 1961, he received a degree in film direction from the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas; he taught at the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografía from 1963 to 1971. Though he had great success with his first film, Picazo was in no hurry to make a second film, and instead took time out to study psychology. His second effort, Oscuros Sueños de Agosto/Dark Dreams of August, came out in 1967. In addition to his feature-film work, Picazo also directed television series and made-for-television movies. As an actor, Picazo made his debut playing a doctor in El Spiritu de la Colmena (1973).
