A now-forgotten Brazilian bombshell, Lia Tora made quite a splash in Hollywood as The Veiled Woman (1928), a melodrama penned by herself. Co-starring the equally forgotten Paul Vincenti, Tora played Nanon, whose marriage to a socialite crumbles when her unsavory past as a gangster's moll is revealed. Tora may have had a future in American films had she not arrived in the middle of the sound revolution. Instead of stardom, she played a bit in Making the Grade (1929) and returned to South America.
