Veteran stage performer Joseph Hazelton claimed to have been a program seller at Ford's Theatre on April 4, 1865, and thus a witness to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. By the 1920s, the venerable actor was playing John Spens to Betty Compson's Lady Babbie in a sumptuous screen version of J.M. Barrie's The Little Minister (1921) and Mr. Grimwig in Oliver Twist (1922).
