A former stage and vaudeville singer/actor who had starred on Broadway in The Burglar, James O'Neill (aka Jim O'Neill is often confused with the famous actor/manager father of playwright Eugene O'Neill. This James O'Neill, however, made his screen debut in the very early 1910s with the New Jersey-based Solax Company and according to his official bio, "appeared in more than 200 pictures for Madame Blaché" (Alice Guy-Blaché, the founder of Solax). A popular character actor of the 1910s and 1920s, O'Neill's screen career lasted until his death in 1938. His nickname was "Tip."
