Cinematographer Harry W. Gerstad arrived in Hollywood in 1910. Initially serving as a cameraman, he received his first major screen credit in 1914 for shooting Colin Campbell's version of The Spoilers, starring William Farnum and Wheeler Oakman. The other movies on which he worked as cinematographer include Danger Zone, Gambling in Souls, and Chain Lightning. By the mid-'20s, he was working for Hal Roach Studios -- the last film on which he worked was Get 'Em Young (1926), a Stan Laurel vehicle. His son, also named Harry Gerstad, who entered the movie business in 1929, was later one of Hollywood's top editors.
