Biography by AllMovie

Before becoming a much-loved comic actor of stage and early silent film, Fred Mace worked as a dentist. In 1911, he worked at Biograph with Mack Sennett and starred in many one-reel comedies. In these shorts, he frequently played One-Round O'Brien, a dopey fighter, or a bumbling detective. In 1912, Mace joined Sennett's Keystone Studios. There, Mace became even more popular until he decided to try producing, directing, and starring in his own series. It was an unsuccessful venture, and in 1915, Mace went back to Keystone. Unfortunately, he was never able to reach his previous level of popularity.
