American comedian Lew Fields was one half of the popular duo Weber and Fields of vaudeville, stage and screen fame. Both he and Joe Weber began appearing in short silent films during the mid-'teens and continued occasionally making films through 1940. Fields also appeared in films without his partner. He is the father of noted playwrights and screenwriters Herbert and Joseph Fields and lyricist Dorothy Fields.
