A personal friend of movie company owner Edwin Thanhouser, Canadian-born, Boston-reared Eugene Moore had appeared on stage with the likes of Edwin Booth, Louis James, and Stuart Robson before making his screen debut with Thanhouser in 1912. Made a director almost from the start, Moore helmed countless one- and two-reel melodramas and comedies for the New Rochelle-based company and also worked at the winter studios in Jacksonville, FL. In 1916, Moore was fired as part of an economy move but when Edwin Thanhouser came out of retirement in hopes of saving a floundering company later that year, Moore was once again behind the megaphone, this time directing the company's answer to Mary Pickford, the blonde Gladys Hulette. Relocating to California after Thanhouser's demise in 1917, Moore directed a couple of minor pictures for the Long Beach Balboa Company.
