Biography by AllMovie

Soviet director Asanova, who came from Kirghizia and is considered one of the republic's leading directors, made nine feature films in the Lenfilm studio, which she joined in 1974. Although her work is almost unknown outside the former Soviet Republic, her films were quite popular within the U.S.S.R. during the 1970s and 1980s, most focused upon the travails of adolescents. Some were highly critical of the social conditions in Soviet life, yet she was never, unlike many of her peers, censored. Asanova added a realistic dimension to her work by using a combination of professional and non-professional actors.
