Biography by AllMovie

William H. Cronjager -- sometimes credited as Henry Cronjager or simply William Cronjager -- was the descendant of one of the great dynasties of technical experts in Hollywood, including his great-uncle Jules Cronjager, his father, Henry Cronjager Jr., his uncle Edward Cronjager, and his grandfather Henry Cronjager, top cinematographers all, going back to the first decade of the 20th century. Born in 1930, William Cronjager staked out a career in the feature-film field only briefly; his one major theatrical film credit was as assistant cameraman on The Hustler (1961). Most of his work as director of photography, however, was confined to television, including the 1970s incarnations of the series Columbo and McCloud at Universal, made-for-television movies such as Deadman's Curve (1978), and the series Hart to Hart and the groundbreaking police drama Hill Street Blues. Cronjager won his only Emmy award for his shooting of the first episode of the latter series. As one might guess from his list of credits, he was particularly skilled and successful in photographing crime dramas. Cronjager's last credit was on the made-for-television feature Broken Angel (1988).
