Biography by AllMovie

Stand-up comedian and comic actor Rodney Carrington grew up in Longview, TX, and attained national exposure via his humorous presence on a number of syndicated morning talk programs. Meanwhile, he constantly toured on the side, thus further broadening his exposure. Crude, earthy, and to the point, his routines dealt with such episodes as dating overweight women, drinking beer, and confronting upper-crust Beverly Hills life with down-home southern attitudes. The sets thus largely appealed to blue-collar audiences. (With his occasionally explicit dialogue and sexual references, he represented something of an edgier alternative to, say, Jeff Foxworthy). One who nearly always toted his guitar with him, Carrington also peppered his routines with straight-faced musical interludes. Early country-flavored comedy recordings included Hangin' with Rodney (1998) and Morning Wood (2000). Following an abortive attempt to launch his own sitcom in 2004 (Rodney), Carrington segued into feature films by co-scripting and co-starring in singer/songwriter Toby Keith's country-flavored comedy Beer for My Horses (2008). In that film, he and Keith play Lonnie and Rack (respectively), two law enforcement buddies who go head-to-head with a drug kingpin in an attempt to rescue a kidnapped young woman, despite the admonitions of the local sheriff (Tom Skerritt).
