Bob Randall was an award-winning screenwriter, playwright and television writer. His most famous Broadway play 6 Rms Riv Vu (1972) received a Drama Desk Award. Two years later the television adaptation, starring Carol Burnett and Alan Alda won an Emmy nomination. Between 1984 and 1989, Randall served as the head writer for the popular sitcom Kate and Allie and earned a Humanitas Award. He won the award a second time, along with an Emmy for his made-for-TV drama David's Mother (1994). Randall's 1975 novel The Fan served as the basis of a 1981 film adaptation starring Lauren Bacall.
