Biography by AllMovie

Portuguese director Lauro António earned critical kudos with his debut feature Manha Submersa (aka Hidden Dawn, 1979). Prior to that, António had co-directed Grande, Grande Era a Cidade (aka The City Was Big, Big, 1971) with Rogério Ceitil. Born in Lisbon, but raised in Portalegre, António started out as a film critic writing for local newspapers. As a young adult, António returned to Lisbon and established himself as a film critic and essayist, publishing ten books. António's debut film was not only released in theaters, but was also edited into four parts and aired on television. António spent the bulk of his subsequent career directing for television; however, in 1984, he made the feature film O Vestido Cor de Fogo (aka The Dress of the Color of Fire).
