  • Came from a musical family: His dad played drums in big bands while his mom sang in them; and his three older brothers (Barry, Maurice and Robin) were the Bee Gees.
  • Received his first guitar (a gift from older brother Barry) in 1970.
  • Began his music career at age 13 on the Spanish island of Ibiza; he sang Top 40 hits in a cover band.
  • Favorite acts growing up included Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney and Wings, Don McLean and Stevie Wonder.
  • Moved to Australia  in 1975 to hone his musical chops. He scored a minor hit in 1976 with "Words and Music" and toured with Sweet and the Bay City Rollers.
