- Came from a musical family: His dad played drums in big bands while his mom sang in them; and his three older brothers (Barry, Maurice and Robin) were the Bee Gees.
- Received his first guitar (a gift from older brother Barry) in 1970.
- Began his music career at age 13 on the Spanish island of Ibiza; he sang Top 40 hits in a cover band.
