Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

In this curious film, a troupe of wandering actors at the beginning of the Twentieth Century bring classics of world theater to the backwoods poor following the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turks. Among the works they feature are Shakespeare's Othello and Ibsen's A Doll's House. In a situation which indicates quite clearly that this is a propaganda film, it is not the poor who object to such highbrow fare, but the rich, who insist on mindless entertainment. A newer member of the troupe takes charge those of his high-minded peers that remain after some of the troupe succumb to the offer of a theater of their own, provided they will produce "pap."
