This color documentary uses footage from U.S. and Russian space missions to contemplate the future of humankind in space and on Earth. Parallels are made between a mother expecting her first child and the successful journeys into orbit, the moon and beyond. The narrator wonders if humans are smart enough to explore space, can they use the same intelligence to end world famine, disease, war and cultural intolerance? This feature appeared at the 1969 Venice Film Festival and was certainly inspired by the recently successful manned mission to the moon.
