Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith
Butch Baldassari continues to be one of the most sought-after players of the bluegrass mandolin. He is an accomplished musician with various recordings to his credit and a regular contributor to music magazines. In this second video of a two-part set, Baldassari challenges his students to try and learn more complex playing skills. He demonstrates "chopping" rhythm chords, soloing, slides, and chord positions up and down the neck. Baldassari also provides tips on playing open chords, hammer-ons, open-string harmonies, and tremolo. All of these techniques are illustrated and broken down as he plays such songs as "Whiskey Before Breakfast," "Bury Me Beneath the Willow," and "Soldier's Joy."
