Synopsis by Heather M. Fierst

Created by Yoga Journal, one of America's most respected yoga magazines, this video is the most comprehensive step-by-step introduction to yoga practice. The first in the six-part Yoga Practice series, this workout teaches the basic poses and breathing techniques of this ancient Hindu practice. Instructor Patricia Walden demonstrates the flowing routine of 23 yoga poses, which includes standing poses for strength and flexibility, seated poses for spinal alignment, inverted poses to calm the body and spirit, and deep relaxation techniques. Walden teaches in a steady, well-paced manner, taking time to stress proper form and how to breathe during each movement. Walden has a soothing voice which -- combined with the subtle music -- enhances the tranquil setting in the desert of Death Valley. When practiced regularly, yoga improves balance and flexibility, reduces stress and muscle tension, raises emery levels, and promotes inner peace.
