Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This series from the History Channel explores some of the most dangerous and deadly natural disasters of all time, including this episode on a quick and very powerful tornado that swept through Topeka, KS, in 1966. Even though the tornado lasted only a minute or so, it destroyed a university, hundreds of homes, and even the State Capitol building. Seventeen people were killed, but many more were injured. This episode captures footage from this quick and destructive tornado as it whipped through the town. There are interviews with some survivors who were just barely saved. Some neighborhoods were filled with debris that had flown from other parts of town. Some people talk about how the media, especially the local radio station, played a very important role in saving lives.
