Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This series from the History Channel explores some of the most dangerous and deadly natural disasters of all time, including this episode on the 1966 flood in Florence, Italy. A large amount of rain forced the banks of the Arno River to rise up and flood much of the city. After the water receded a day later, the citizens of Florence were forced to clean up their city, attempting to keep the city free from disease and to save some of the world's most precious artifacts. The citizens of Florence came together to help one another during this time of disaster, which might be the only thing that saved this Italian city from total loss and catastrophe. While the governmental officials worked to restore some of the basic services to the city, including fresh water and electricity, the citizens worked to help save, preserve, and restore some of the historical art collections and other priceless objects.
