The British game show Would I Lie to You? was an offshoot of a recurring segment on the American quiz program Truth or Consequences. On each episode, the contestants were obliged to determine whether or not their partners (usually their spouses) were telling the truth, or dispensing a pack of lies. After premiering as a one-shot pilot in 1998, Would I Lie to You? began its lengthy TV run in 1999, with Steve Penk as host.
