Synopsis by Hal Erickson

British playwright Sidney Morgan brought his popular stage drama The World's Desire to the screen in 1915, installing himself as the film's director. Lilian Brainwaithe heads the cast as the beautiful but barren wife of a wealthy factory owner. Upset that his is a childless marriage, the husband grows envious of his factory's foreman, the father of a large and healthy brood. After the wife's latest miscarriage, the woman's physician persuades the foreman to give up one of his children to be adopted by the wealthy couple. Out of pity for the owner and his wife, the doctor lets them assume that the baby is actually theirs. The deception is not revealed until many, many years later, whereupon the wealthy husband jumps to the erroneous conclusion that his wife and the foreman had been lovers. It takes several more reels before things are set aright again.
