Synopsis by Alice Day

At a time when few women attempted such daring exploits, Beryl Markham made the first solo flight from London to New York, nine years after Lindbergh's historic Atlantic flight. Her contemporaries were Isak Dinesen of Out of Africa fame, Dinesen's husband, Baron Bror Blixen, and Denys Finch Hatton. Finch Hatton taught her to fly in Kenya, where she became a bush pilot, scouting animals for safaris and delivering mail to the bush country. She was also a top racehorse trainer. Her memoir World Without Walls became a national best-seller, highly praised by Ernest Hemingway.
