William Farnum played a dual role in the Fox five-reeler A Wonderful Adventure. Falling in love with the exotic Mazora (Dorothy Green), New York contractor Wilton Demarest (Farnum) is quickly led down the road to degradation, ending up a hopeless drug addict. Meanwhile, Demarest's look-alike, construction engineer Martin Stanley (also Farnum), arrives in Manhattan looking for work. Hoping to escape his financial and family responsibilities so he can devote himself full-time to his drug habit, Demarest hires Stanley to take his place. Stanley does his job so well that he even manages to fool Mrs. Demarest (Mary Martin, no relation to the famous musical-comedy star) -- who, of course, ends up falling in love with the impostor. Though it wasn't so noted in the film's credits, A Wonderful Adventure was clearly inspired by the John Hunter Booth play The Masqueraders (itself filmed in 1922 with Guy Bates Post and in 1933 with Ronald Colman).
