Heroine Helen Stanhope (Violet Messereau) is saddled with a mercenary mother (Fanny Hayes), who wants to marry Helen off to a wealthy man. Mama succeeds in linking up Helen with rich young Bruce Marsden (William Garwood), who unfortunately loses his fortune shortly after the wedding. By this time, Helen has fallen in love with Bruce and is willing to stick with him through thick and thin. But Mama wants her daughter to dump Bruce in favor of another man of wealth, Anthony Stuart (Brinsley Shaw). Upon discovering that Anthony is not only a fraud but also a scoundrel, Mama finally resigns herself to the poor-but-virtuous Bruce as a son-in-law.
