Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This elegantly filmed melodrama follows the insanely self-absorbed Wei-liang as she discovers from her best friend that her husband is having an affair. Rather than take it in stride or confront her wayward spouse, she deposits the two children of her marriage with their grandmother and makes an effort to reinvent herself. That failing, she uses the children to emotionally blackmail her husband into staying with her. This drives her husband's mistress to attempt suicide, and her husband's reaction to that attempt convinces the unreasonable woman that she can never win back his love, and without that love, life is not worth living for herself or anyone else in her family.
