Synopsis by Mark Deming

Near the end of 2004, a massive tsunami in the Indian Ocean unleashed a destructive fury on the shores of ten Asian nations, and people around the world reached out to help. Country music legend Willie Nelson helped to organize a benefit concert in Austin, TX, to raise funds for tsunami relief, and a handful of Texas' finest musicians came out to support the cause. Willie Nelson: Songs for Tsunami Relief -- Austin to South Asia features outstanding performances by Patty Griffin, Joe Ely, Alejandro Escovedo, Spoon, Kelly Willis, and Natalie Maines (of the Dixie Chicks) along with a set from Willie, who plays such classics as "Whiskey River," "Georgia on My Mind," "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," and "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground."
