Stasiek is a young man who has just been released from prison, and Bronka is the young woman with a pronounced limp who loves him. Stasiek agrees to marry her if she can convince her father to give some farmland as a dowry. Bronka eventually convinces her father to give them the land, but Stasiek has taken up with a former flame by the time the deal is done. Broken-hearted and angry, Bronka takes a knife after the man she had hoped would become her husband in this depressing drama.
