Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The made-for-cable documentary series When I Was a Girl was unofficially launched in June 2002 as a one-shot promotional special for the theatrical feature The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. When the series proper began on September 22 of that year, the format remained the same: Famous women were interviewed concerning the major milestones and turning points in their lives. The subject matter ranged from the First Big Job to the loss of parents, and, in the case of actress Kelly Preston, the first period. When I Was a Girl was narrated by Sex and the City co-star Kristin Davis.
