Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Western Limited is another of the "Grand Hotel on wheels" films so popular in the early 1930s. Stealing a valuable diamond at a Los Angeles society function, gentleman thief Edmund Burns boards a train bound for Chicago. A murder occurs during the journey, casting suspicion not only on Burns but on every other passenger. Once the gathered suspects get over the surprise that Burns is not a thief, but instead an insurance investigator assigned to protect the jewels, our hero can get down to the business of revealing the murderer's identity. Former silent-screen vamp Estelle Taylor, billed first, plays a more sympathetic role than usual.
