Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Released in London a week or so after the feature-length documentary The Queen in Australia, Welcome the Queen! is still another filmed record of young Queen Elizabeth's recent tour of the British Empire. Once more the Queen smiles beatifically and waves that dignified little wave of hers, while Prince Philip does his best to look interested. The film picks up when the Royal Family arrives in Tobruk, then moves on to Gilbraltar (Barbary apes and all!) The best scenes involve the very young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, scenes that take on an added dimension in the 1990s, with the viewer forearmed with the knowledge of the checkered fate in store for these two children. BBC radio's Edward Ward narrates this 50-minute featurette.
