Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Up-and-coming journalist Robert Barr (Carlyle Blackwell) is in love with debutante Alice Thornton (June Elvidge), whose mother (Kate Lester) would prefer that Alice marry a titled European. To break up Alice's romance, Mrs. Thornton arranges for Barr to be caught in a compromising position with another woman named Marcelle (Muriel Ostriche). Disconsolately, Alice agrees to wed Count Louis di Joinville (John Bowers), who turns out to be a nice guy. But when the Count realizes that Alice hasn't gotten over Barr, he philosophically rejoins his regiment and marches off to WWI. Wounded in battle, the Count is rescued from No Man's Land by Barr, who is now a war correspondent. Shortly before he dies from his injuries, the Count gives his blessing to the inevitable reunion between Barr and Alice -- and almost simultaneously, it is revealed that Marcelle, the heartbreaker who originally came between the hero and heroine, is actually Alice's half-sister, who was put up to the "frame" by Mrs. Thornton. This picture had more Dickensian coincidences than even Dickens could dream up!
