Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Released by Eclectic, the American division of Pathe Pictures, The Waif was filmed in France with a primarily English cast. The title character is a young boy named Remi (who may well have been played by a young girl in drag). In reality the heir to a fortune, Remi is kidnapped by scheming relatives and cast out into the cold cruel world. He grows into adolescence under conditions of dire poverty, never dreaming that he is actually worth millions. When he learns the truth, Remi is forced to make a choice between the luxuries of his "natural" family and the deep abiding love provided him by his foster parents.
