Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The Russia Guerrilla Brigade pays homage to the Soviet fighting man of WWII by harking back to WWI (the film in fact was made before the Nazi invasion of the USSR). Lev Sverdlin is cast as Chubenko, a simple, straightforward miner whose gorge rises when his homeland is attack by the Kaiser's minions. Organizing a band of his fellow miners, Chubenko leads innumerable guerrilla radis against the hated Huns. By film's end, however, he finds that the greatest threat against his birthright are those pro-German sympathizers within his own ranks. The screenplay is hard to follow, but the film scores points on intensity and sincerity.
