Synopsis by Hal Erickson
According to the Discovery Channel publicity department, the network's weekly documentary series Vital Scan was devoted to true stories of "traumatic injury, rescue and recovery." Each hour-long episode featured three different stories of people who had managed to survive and recover from catastrophic injuries. NASCAR drivers, X-Game participants, snowboarders rendered paraplegic in falls, and police officers seriously wounded in the line of duty were all grist for the series' mill. Vital Scan debuted October 10, 2003.
