Banned in the U.K. upon its initial release in 1989, Nigel Wingrove's experimental art film Visions of Ecstasy portrays the prurient meditations of the 16th Century Carmelite nun St. Theresa. In 2008, the U.K.'s blasphemy laws were rescinded, paving the way for an official release of the film.
