Although Jack Pickford had an acting career primarily because his sister was superstar Mary Pickford, he was well cast in this particular film. Dink Stover (Pickford) is the Varmint, who is now on his way to Lawrenceville Academy, having been expelled from his prior school. He hasn't even arrived before he gets himself in hot water; while riding on the coach, the Academy's Latin professor (Theodore Roberts), known only as The Roman, overhears Stover bragging about his prior exploits. Once Stover gets to the Academy, he becomes the butt of the students' jokes and earns their animosity when he helps the school lose a ball game. But Stover manages to fight his way to popularity with the use of his fists, then proves his honor by risking failure -- and his place on the football team -- during his Latin class. This film was based on a story by Owen Johnson.
