Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Despite the fact that he was born into the poverty of a lower caste, Kathakali performer Kunhikuttan (Mohanlal) is revered as a master of his craft and a remarkably gifted performer. Trapped in a loveless marriage but remaining faithful for the love of his daughter, Kunhikuttan performs mainly at weddings and other special events and is frequently traveling. Kunhikuttan's fidelity is soon put to the challenge when he meets a beautiful, wealthy, theater-loving member of royalty named Subhadra (Suhasini). As their romance blossoms, Subhadra writes a play in which Kunhikuttan performs. It soon becomes obvious that the romance is doomed to fail because Subhadra is not in love with Kunhikuttan, but the character he portrays on-stage.
