Synopsis by Mark Deming

A woman isn't sure if love can trump truly foolish politics in this satiric comedy from director Nosir Saidov. Kirill Ivanovich (Yuri Nazarov) is a Russian meteorologist stationed in Safedobi, a small village in the Central Asian nation of Tajikistan. Kirill doesn't enjoy being stranded in Safedobi, and he's waiting for the day he can hand his duties over to Nilufar (Nashiba Sharipova), his bright and ambitious co-worker whose desire to rise through the ranks is seen as troublesome by her father and her fiancé. Just as things seem poised for Kirill to go back to Russia and Nilufar to take his place with the blessings of her loved ones, the Soviet Union begins to crumble and Russian troops, establishing new borders in Tajikstan, divide Safedobi in two. Now Nilufar lives on one side of the new divide and her husband-to-be lives on the other, officially in another country. How can Nilufar marry the man she loves now that fate has put them in separate nations just a few feet apart? And will Kirill be able to go home after all? Billed as the first movie solely produced by Tijak filmmakers in nearly two decades, Qiyami Roz (aka True Noon) was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
