Synopsis by Mark Deming

In this independent drama, Marta (Blanca Lewin) is a woman in her mid-20s who has left her home in Chile to come to New York City. Marta is an actress who dreams of a new career in America, but the main reason she's come to New York is because her boyfriend Alvaro (Pablo Cerda) is supposed to be joining her soon. Marta is sharing an apartment in Brooklyn with Angela (Shelley Thomas) and her brother Eddie (Frank Harts), but she doesn't always feel comfortable with her new roommates and Eddie makes no secret of the fact he doesn't care for Marta. When Alvaro arrives in Brooklyn and lets her know he doesn't want to continue his relationship with Marta, she realizes she's truly on her own and has to make her own way in newly gentrified Brooklyn. Marta takes a job in a coffee shop, and fate seems to led a hand when she lands a role in a low-budget movie and catches the eye of Brad (Matt Cavenaugh), a member of the camera crew. But when the bad blood between Marta and Eddie leads to an act of violence, Marta is forced to stand up for herself. New Brooklyn was the directorial credit for Christopher Cannucciari, who previously distinguished himself as a cinematographer.
