Synopsis by Robert Firsching
For its 70th anniversary feature, the Nikkatsu studio commissioned this big-budget, almost mainstream pinku eiga film from respected filmmaker Kirio Urayama (Taiyo No Ko). It's the autobiography of writer Junnosuke Yoshiyuki, portrayed here by Koji Shimizu, looking for love after his wife (Yuki Kazamatsuri) commits suicide. The film deals with his various affairs -- a neighbor, a lesbian, a kept woman -- in graphic detail, as he finds a great deal of sex, but not the love which he seeks. Eventually, the lonely widower meets Natsue (Rie Kimura), who just might be able to fill the aching void in his heart. Unfortunately, Natsue is already spoken for, and her ill-tempered boyfriend beats the tar out of both of them. It's basically a misguided attempt at erotica for the masses, with the obligatory unhappy ending, and just as clunky as most big-budget attempts at the form.
