Synopsis by Hal Erickson

An Allied POW camp provides the setting for Natale al Campo 119. Huddled together on Christmas Eve, a seven Italian prisoners recall happier holiday gatherings with their loved ones. A series of flashbacks transport the prisoners to their families in Rome, Naples, Florence, Venice, Bologna and Sicily. Each of the reminscences is highlighted by an authentic folk song, performed by authentic folk. Of the main characters, Aldo Fabrizi stands out in a marvelous, well-rounded portrayal. Natale al Campo 119 is a kinder, gentler variation of the multistory format popularized by Rossini's Open City and Paisan.
